Human Models for English Language Learners and Special Educ

My students need 1 female reproductive system model and 1 human circulatory system model.

"People learn 80% of the concept or skill by doing"(Chi, 1969). I teach English Language Learners (ELL) and Special Education (SpEd) 7th and 8th Grade Students. Our school is a high-need public school. 71% of families receive public assistance.

My ELL students' education was interrupted when they moved to USA or when they needed to be in an English Language Learner's Class. They have to learn English before they are mainstreamed to regular education classes. My Sped students, on the other hand, have not taken any regular Science Class in Elementary. Hence, when they come to my class, they are very excited with the aquaria, plants they see and when we do hands-on activities in class. And because these students have missed a big chunk of the curriculum, I would like to cover as much as I could before they hurdle their 8th Grade test at the end of the school year. I then want to develop their inquiring minds by making them ask questions, plan, investigate, discuss and make their conclusions. We do Field Trips, environment field evaluation and classroom activities. These are opportunities where they utilize their listening, creative, mathematical, writing and critical learning skills. An activity we did in class is investigate the difference between growing vegetables using soil and water (hydroponics). After the first activity, they came up with a follow-up question which they investigated for their next quarter project.

For the next chapters on the human systems, we need Human Systems Models. We will need the Human Female reproductive system model and the human circulatory system model. These models will give my students the opportunity to see, touch, and put together the organs in a human body system. Each student will have the opportunity to work on it on his/her own time and thus meeting the needs of the tactile, kinesthetic and visual students.

It is with your help that these dreams will be realized. Your donations will pave the way for a fun and better learning opportunities for students in need. When given the chance to use their senses they are motivated internally to report to class and eager to learn everyday. They look forward to the next lessons. Please pay for all or for at least one of them. We will all be grateful for the support you will give us
