"Mr. Smith, can I have a copy of our novel to read at home tonight?" I teach a group of enthusiastic and gifted nine and ten year olds that have a voracious appetite for books. My district has written an extensive curriculum for the novels I have requested. We are a newer school so we currently have very few copies of these books to give to the children. It is my hope that each of these gifted children will have their own copy to take home and share with their families.

NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER My classroom is situated in a beautiful new school. We have new desks, freshly painted walls, but we have very few supplies. Our school was originally intended for 650 students and we currently have over 900. As a result, there are very few novel sets for our English Language Arts classes. It is not unusual for students to share books and it is unheard of to have the opportunity to have a copy of a novel to take home. We love the old titles that we have but we desperately need new novel sets so that the children can have individual copies to enjoy in school and at home.

A COMMUNITY OF READERS Real readers have a stack of books on their nightstands. They painstakingly pay enough attention to each book to stay in its good graces for just another day. Real readers have their own copy of the book they are reading so that a 30 minute wait at the doctor's office can be the best part of their day. Real readers adore the written word and worship new novels even if the titles are old classics. My community desperately needs 25 copies of "Bunnicula", "Little House", and "Goblins in the Castle" to graduate and become real readers.
