I teach first grade in a high-poverty school. Over 80% of our students receive free/reduced lunch. Also, 50% of them speak a language other than English at home.

Our students spend six weeks studying rocks as part of a district unit. We have some rocks to show them, but their exposure to many different kinds of rocks is limited. There are few resources within walking distance to show the little geologists all of the different kinds of rocks this world offers. Due to their home situations, our students have little money to contribute to their experiences at school. With costs rising in every area, it is hard for us to raise money for a field trip that requires a bus or entrance fee.

We need funding for a field trip to the most amazing rock museum in the northwest – the Rice NW Museum of Rocks and Minerals. The students will get to see fossils, minerals, petrified trees, meteorites, and even gold!

This is an amazing opportunity for our students that they will remember for years! You will make it possible for the children to see a world outside of their own neighborhood, as well as an absolutely amazing museum.
