Technological literacy is a requirement in the 21st Century and I want to develop that in my students. My school district is in rural Iowa, roughly half of our student population is on free or reduced lunch, and we have a significant minority population of immigrants from the Philippines.

My students are in need of the resources to practice 21st Century Job Skills. I want to help them develop technological creativity that they will be able to use 5, 10, and even 15 years from when I have them in class. Some of my students do not have ready access to computers at home or lack the transportation to go to an available site.

Seven Hewlett-Packard laptop computers will help my students get ready for college and the 21st Century work place. With the two previous proposals I have written students have been able to create websites and powerpoint presentations for class. I have also been able to check out the mini-laptops to students for work at home. These are limited resources. With more powerful computers all of my students will be able to create historical documentaries to show and teach content to younger students in our district. Projects will be designed to have 2-3 students working in teams to develop graphs, multi-media presentations, reports, movies, and music that will express their content knowledge, get prepared for college, and master skills for their future careers. They will be given real life scenarios that they will use the computers to solve: creating international business proposals, developing public policy ideas for local and state government, and creating solutions to humanitarian issues that they would present to the United Nations.

Support for this proposal will help students gain the skills they will need for college and to be competitive in their future careers. It will give students access to the equipment they will be using in their academic and job fields.
