I teach a group of 24 wonderful second graders who are very eager to learn more and more each day.

In my second grade class we study photo essay as one of our writing units. The kids study published photo essays from magazines and other sources. We learn how photo essays have fact and a bit of personality as well. Students then are able to take photos around the school with our classroom digital camera. The kids learn how to take candid shots and posed shots. They learn how to use a photo essay to persuade and educate an audience. Each student then chooses one photo essay to publish. This is a great real world learning opportunity for my students. The problem is that just as we were starting our unit the classroom digital camera broke. We were all so disappointed. We need a new digital camera for our classroom.

We would like a new digital camera and memory card to enhance our daily learning and help us investigate the photo essay craft.
