Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a graphic arts teacher in a high-need urban school district, where I teach over 50 students per day. My students have some of the equipment they need to complete portfolio assignments, however they lack basics, such as digital cameras, in order to advance themselves and stay current with today's graphic arts trends.
My students are working with outdated software and digital camera that are over 10 years old!!! These old cameras only take floppy disks! When my students try to edit them, the quality of their work is so sub-par, due to the equipment being used.
My students are trying to complete portfolio assignments that will help them land internships/apprenticeships, as well as get them into competitive graphic arts higher education institutes. However, I fear they will not be able to get admitted or stand a viable chance at getting an internship without being exposed to the proper technology as well as integrating it with the software needed to complete complex projects.
While I was able to use my own funds to purchase an updated digital camera, I have 50+ students in my classroom on a daily basis. My one camera cannot afford all of my students equal time at portfolio development and digital photography manipulation.
I am requesting these digital cameras and the accessories that go along with them in order to facilitate a conducive learning environment with my students. With the addition of 7 new cameras (plus the one I purchased), each camera would be used by a group of 2 to complete portfolio assignments, work on in-house graphics requests, and assist in landing my students gainful employment, internships, and, most importantly, higher education at great graphic arts institutes.
These camera will make the world of difference in my classroom and for my students!! Please help make this a reality! These 7 cameras will go a long way in the lives of the 57 students that will use them.
