Throughout the process of receiving the materials, assembling the bookshelf, and ordering and organizing novels, students had an engaging in enriching experience. From bonding alongside peers through community service to having more accessible reading experiences during lessons, these donations have immensely impacted our learning environment and overall community of reading.\r\n\r\nUpon the materials arrival, students expressed excitement and curiosity for what the box entailed for their learning environment. As the classes that I have taught encompassed Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors in high school, it has become a center point to our shared space. Juniors assembled the bookshelf and removed all books from the previous space for organization to relieve their minds during state testing while also earning community service hours. Sophomores did research to discover the different genres for each novel within the library and the ones that were ordered via donation through a request list formulated by each of my three grade levels. Seniors revised the Sophomore's organization via their research and sorted all of the novels within the library. Overall, this was a very exciting experience for both myself and my students because volunteers were able to earn community service while being able to organize the novels that they have to suddenly reach during class for any activity or assignment that I may give them. Students' library etiquette has developed stupendously throughout the school years and the requests for more novels has and will continue!","fullyFundedDate":1730923834745,"projectUrl":"project/too-many-books-not-enough-library/8912939/","projectTitle":"Too Many Books, Not Enough Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Barran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9821624_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y342&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755985450368","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9821624"},{"teacherId":9816973,"projectId":9106918,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating towards my project. In such uncertain times, it is so heartening to receive support and encouragement from donors who believe that students and young people have a right to food, shelter, and care, as a part of a high quality education. The snacks arrived at the right time (Q3 and Q4) and played a huge role in boosting the morale of my students. Additionally, having access to healthy and delicious snacks such as popcorn, nuts, and energy bars, provided them the energy required to persist through intellectually and emotionally demanding tasks. Finally, I was able to order snacks that they love, which allowed the kids to feel seen and cared for. This was instrumental in helping me build deep relationships with them. \r\n\r\nSo, thank you all once again for the support. Your support allowed my students to enjoy nutritious snacks while also enhancing their learning experience with Wacom pads. They were so excited to have healthier snack options instead of their usual $1 chips or sugary treats, and it truly made a difference in their energy and focus during class. My athlete students in the picture also sends a special thanks so that they can refuel their brains for not only their class, but also for their games afterwards. \r\n\r\nThe Wacom pads have been a game-changer, especially since we use Desmos daily. Many of my students struggle with drawing graphs and writing equations on their Chromebooks, but these tablets have made it so much easier for them to interact with the math concepts in a more natural way. Their engagement has increased, and I love seeing their confidence grow as they work through problems more efficiently.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only improved their learning experience but has also shown them that there are people out there who care about their education and success. As a quick reminder, my project mainly involved getting access to snacks for my students, especially those who stay over during lunch or after school to work hard on academics and improve their understanding of physics. I also included Play-Doh and slinkies in my grant as both stim toys for students as well as for their practical application in the physics classroom to conduct experiments on energy and waves in the future.\r\n\r\nThe gifts were such a major success. It especially came in handy for a student with Type 1 diabetes, who occasionally needed a snack. Before I was informed about his health condition, I was puzzled by his behavior that oscillated from warm and friendly to cold and disinterested. By having a simple fruit snack to offer him when his blood sugar fell, I felt more empowered to help him feel better, more healthy, and more able to focus on physics, which he says he enjoys. It also created a safe space in my classroom, where eventually he felt comfortable asking me for help. I feel deeply appreciative of all the donors who chose to believe in my mission and put their trust in me.\r\n\r\nIn terms of my AP students, the availability of snacks not only brought a smile to their faces and was an instant mood-improver; it also made them feel more willing to miss a part of their lunch period to complete a problem or finish a lab experiment. It is invaluable for me to see them powered up, joyful, and enthusiastic about science, especially during this time of the year, when they are feeling burned out and losing hope about their performing well in the exam. Just the simple sign of having something healthy and delicious to munch on brings a small ray of sunlight on a cold and dreary New Jersey winter afternoon.\r\n\r\nOnce again, I would like to thank everyone who decided that they were going to support me and my students. As a teacher, the love and support of my teacher colleagues and community keep me going during hard times.","fullyFundedDate":1730397677046,"projectUrl":"project/accessing-health-focus-and-joy-in-the/8905859/","projectTitle":"Accessing Health, Focus, and Joy In the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Raj","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9816973_orig.jpg?crop=2358,2358,x0,y191&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739233021715","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9816973"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_81174","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":654,"numTeachers":49,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":70,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.3,"schoolId":81174,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Technology High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Technology High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/newark-public-schools/technology-high-school/81174"}
