Active learners need choices! First graders in Maine need literacy centers that are meaningful and worth while.

After 17 years of teaching the traditional basal program, I am trying to use what the latest research tells us...Developmental literacy centers are what students need. Therefore, I am starting fresh this year and am beg, borrowing and taking from other teachers to make it work. These supplies will give my students the centers they deserve.

Starting a new program requires materials. I am making many games and activities, but I need more ideas and things that work. The books and center materials that I have chosen will give my center time more for the students to learn from. I have chosen 2 instant literacy kits that will give my students the hands on experiences that they will need to become successful readers. I also am requesting a story writing center that will promote student writing. This kit uses specialized paper and kid-fun stamps to promote writing. Final, I've included 2 teacher resource guides so that I am able to utilize what I already have in my room to make successful literacy centers.
