I teach 24 creative, curious, and enthusiastic third graders. My charter school's mission is to prepare students for full participation in a democratic society and to achieve academic and personal success.

Being fully prepared to participate in today's society means being adept at technology. My students are very curious and excited about technology; however, they do not have the access to technology they need to become proficient. Over the last school year and summer, 16 laptops were stolen from our school, so my students no longer have access to technology at school, and many do not have access to technology at home. If we do not provide this opportunity for them, we are doing them a disservice in the 21st century.

Having a class set of laptop computers would enable my students to learn basic technology skills such as typing and navigating the Internet, but also the chance to expand their creative skills and engage in critical thinking through a different medium. With a class set of laptops, not only my students, but all of the students in my school can have this opportunity.

I know this is lot to ask, but with your generosity my students will have the chance to learn necessary skills for college and the 21st century.
