I am currently teaching music at a combined middle high school in Northern California. Each day, I teach 3 high school classes (Symphonic Band, Guitar Class & Choir) and two middle school classes(beginning band and advanced band). Even though this is my first year teaching at this school, I have been with the school district for over 7 years. When I came in this Fall, the music program has band, orchestra and choir. In less than one quarter, I have started a marching band and a guitar class. I am hoping to start a jazz ensemble before Thanksgiving.

My school was build less than 8 years ago. The school did not purchase any musical instruments when it opened. All 320 music students on campus have to buy or rent their own instruments. Due to California State budget cut, we lost all of our Arts Grant money last school year. Our music boosters, parents and supports have been great to us but we are still struggling to get things done due to monetary restraints.

I need an electric drum set for our new jazz ensemble class which I am trying to get started before Thanksgiving. The reason for an electric drum set instead of a traditional acoustic drum set is due to the size of our rehearsal space. Student drummers can also practice drumming with head phones to minimize noise in the band room.

This electric drum set is crucial in making our jazz program at my school possible. Most healthy high school music departments have strong jazz programs. I would love to expand the musical experience for all students at my school. This electric drum set will be a positive addition to our budding music program.
