An ipod touch could help bridge the language gap between me and my English as a Second Language students. I teach Kindergarten at a school with a rapidly growing Hispanic population. The Hispanic population consists of about 40% this year, which doubled from last year.

Most of these Kindergarten students can not speak English, let alone understand it! Could you imagine how confused a Kindergarten student would be if he could not understand his teacher and she couldn't understand him?

With an ipod touch, I could download applications that would help students learn basic vocabulary and communication skills. I have found numerous skill building applications that the children love! I have many of these applications downloaded on my iphone and the students play it during center time. If I received an ipod touch, then more students would be able to share this awesome learning tool!! You wouldn't believe the skills that are out there. Here's a few I found: Recognizing Shapes, colors, numbers, letters, letter matching, letter sounds, initial sounds, picture matching, and many, many more.

All of the applications I have found teach the Spanish and English version of together. So, these skill building games will benefit my English speaking students as well. You can make it possible for these students to achieve goals that otherwise they might not be able reach.
