Feeding Students for Success

My students need various snacks such as crackers, granola bars, and fruit.

Imagine a room full of vibrant kindergarteners excitedly filling a baggie with one hundred of their favorite snacks. As you move around the room, you notice one little guy not chowing down. When you quiz him about why he isn't enjoying his snack, he tells you that he needs to save his for dinner because his mommy can't wake up to fix supper.

How can you expect him to learn to read and write, when he has to be concerned about what he is going to eat when you are not there for the weekend?

To address this concern, we have started sending home food with targeted students. My five and six year olds need food they can eat independently when home is not able to provide for those needs. We include things like cereal bars, shelf-stable milk, fruit cups, and juice.

We are intent on equipping all of our students for success, and for some of my students that means feeding them first. Your help will make that possible.
