Welcome to my diverse classroom! I am the teacher of 17 students receiving special education services in second and third grade. Our community is a rural high-need community. The disability classifications I serve are as follows: Mental Retardation/Intellectual Disability (MR/ID), Hearing Impairment (HI), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Hyperactivity Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD), Developmental Delay, Functional Delay, Specific Learning Disorders, and Language Disorders. Most of my students are performing in the kindergarten to early second grade level range in reading, language, and/or mathematics.

The students I teach are some of the most incredible students I have ever met. Constantly reaching towards rigorous goals, they work tirelessly to make progress. A document camera would help me meet the needs of all my students. As a class, we have faced some challenges. My students work hard to conceptualize mathematical concepts and to learn to decode words to become fluent and confident readers, but struggle to make the needed progress to return to the general education classroom. Unfortunately, my instructional supplies are limited, and do little to remedy these challenges. My students benefit from a highly visual and technological instructional focus paired with extensive modeling and practice.

With the use of a document camera, I can provide my students with the instruction that will allow them to learn better with highly visual and technology driven lessons. This lesson structure was an instructional strategy I was unable to provide in the past. Utilizing the document camera will give me ample opportunities for modeling, which will result in higher student engagement levels, and better mastery results.

My students need this resource so that they can approach, understand, and master content that they might otherwise never have the opportunity to. By providing this resource to my incredible students, you will be giving them the tools to achieve success: Achieving their Big Goal, affirming their abilities, and helping to provide them with an extensive source of confidence and self-esteem.
