Sign Language Dictionaries and Books

My students need 4 each of the Gallaudet Dictionary of American Sign Language and Random House Webster's Pocket American Sign Language Dictionary, as well as 48 literature books.

My deaf students are from a high-need community. They are a culturally diverse group, some have moved here from other countries. Some of the students have their core classes in one room but others go to classes outside of the deaf ed room.

They are deaf but have no sign language dictionaries that they can use to find the english word that matches the signs they use. The students that go to classes outside the deaf ed room would greatly benefit from having the pocket sign language dictionaries available to them in their classrooms. They are eager to learn and the dictionaries will help them expand their vocabulary. I have very limited literature on levels that these students need. They read at levels between first and fourth grade but need books that would be appropriate for high school students. Due to the fact that these students are deaf and there are so few of them they often do not get thought of when the time comes to order dictionaries for the school. Also, due to their reading levels being low there are not a lot of books for reading pleasure available to them.

Not only are these students learning english but they are concurrently learning American Sign Language, which is the language they will ultimately use to communicate with the world around them.
