See what Mr. J. is requestingMy students need 4 desks as my classroom is short on desks and my students have to sit on the floor or in broken chairs without any desk on which to work.

I'm not the band director, but you will find numerous instruments and music books in the classroom I teach. In a school overflowing its building capacity, I have been asked to teach Business Math in the band room. After struggling financially and consistently with some of the lowest test scores in the country, my critical needs high school has been taken over by the state. My kids are incredibly smart and have real potential,... unfortunately what they do not have is a place to sit.
In my classroom, my students are often forced to sit on the floor or on broken chairs without desks. The only thing I was able to find for my students were some old desks that had been discarded as they were missing feet, broken or too small for high schooners. Even with these broken desks, my classroom still does not have enough desks for my students.
In order for these kids to have a real chance, a fair chance to bring up their test scores and graduate, they need a place to sit and a desk on which to write. Can you imagine trying to take a test while sitting on the floor? Can you imagine trying to calculate compound interest without a desk on which to place your scratch paper? This is my current classroom.
My Project is not particularly sexy, inventive or creative... because I'm just asking for the bare essentials. My kids deserve desks on which to write. It is hard to believe that in America, students have to sit on the floor or on broken deskless chairs. My students work hard and don't complain about not having anywhere to sit, but they deserve desks. Your donation will literally be lifting my kids up off the ground and giving them a place to sit and a desk on which to write. My students never ask for a thing, but can only imagine how grateful and excited they would be to have a place to sit.
