Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I will be teaching 4th grade again after having taught 2nd and 3rd grade for three years. I want to challenge the students in my 4th grade class with lessons that make them think beyond what the textbook relays. I expect these students to complete projects that bring to life the stories and lessons we explore in class. Our school is a Title I school which means the majority of the students receive free or reduces price lunches. These same students come from a diverse cultural background. We are one of many English Language Learners' schools. The majority of the students come from other countries and are often written off by others in society. I try to create learning situations that transcend this hindrance and pushes them to explore the lessons taught further.

My students do have difficulty with the English language, since the majority of them are either learning it as a second or even a third language. I feel by having materials that allow me to guide them and pushes them to go beyond their comfort zone that I am creating interest in new areas of exploration in learning for them.

The book that I am requesting, Redwall by Brian Jacques provide a rich, descriptive language. My students will be explored to ways to describe various items that isn't simple or even mundane. The book is rich in descriptive language that my class is needing exposure. Redwall and all of Brian Jacques books were written with the idea of being able to smell, taste, feel, and observe all aspects of the story. My class will not only read an excellent, entertaining story, but will enrich their learning in ways they never knew.

I hope that any potential donor realizes that they are helping me to create thinkers for tomorrow. By using this method of receiving the material, I am able to use other funds that I receive for the everyday material that several students need such as paper, pencils, folders and the like.
