I am a 4/5 grade teacher for students in New York, seeking funding for novels by Walter Dean Myers for an author study.

Have a favorite author - the creator of page turners that keep you up late at night, waiting to share the latest juicy parts with a friend? I do! Walter Dean Myers creates just those types of books for kids. My aim is to get my class talking about this author just like you would when you talk to your friends about your favorite book or the feeling you get when you read the New York Times Book Review.

Creating book clubs with 4 Walter Dean Myers books will allow my students to develop a connection to this author by immersing themselves in the author's life, writing style, and themes. Projects that can come out of this in-depth study include: writing letters to the author, writing their own sequels, exploring author's inspiration for his topics, looking for clues about the author's life.

Thank you for supporting a project that will bring an author to life for my students and introduce reading as a way to connect to others around literary ideas and create a community around books.
