Just as athletes train their muscles, musicians must train their ears. As many high school musicians are looking toward a future in the arts, it is essential that they have the training necessary to function in this competitive field.

At the rural high school where I teach in CT we have many musically talented students. They are genuinely interested in furthering their knowledge of this great art form. One way in which to do this is through performance, but another huge aspect of their musical learning is their ability to become musically literate. Ear training is a critical aspect of music literacy, and it is essential to students' ability to become well-rounded musicians. The problem? The traditional approach to teaching ear-training requires a significant amount of time and individual attention--resources that are incredibly scarce even in the smallest of schools.

Luckily, with advances in technology, there are ways for students to attend to their own ear training. Specifically, software entitled EarMaster allows students to train on computers, on their own time, without interrupting valuable classroom time. From beginning to advanced musicians, all of my students will benefit from the use of this technology.

Your help in purchasing this software will help my students become more literate, and more thoughtful musicians.
