I am a special educator in an urban area. I teach first, second, and third grade. I decided to teach in an urban area because I believe in closing the achievement gap and in creating an environment where my students feel safe, comfortable, and motivated to learn. Here is how you can help me achieve that.

In my classroom thanks to school and donorschoose funding we have a wealth of math manipulatives for my scholars to use. The problem is that there is no place for these items to be stored. They currently reside in the math center. However my math center is four student desks pushed together. The materials are stored in the original storage bins under the desks or placed on top of these desks. As you can imagine it is not easy to get these materials therefore they are not readily available for my scholars.

The cubby storage center and bins will make it possible for all materials to be stored in an appropriate place. It will be easy for the scholars to find and use the materials when they need it. This will be put in my math center along with the carpet. The carpet will give my students a great place sit and use the materials. This way they are comfortable and able to learn. They won’t have to bring the materials back to their desks. This will be an area especially for math which will help them get their math thinking caps on.

First, I want to thank you for the time it took you to read this proposal. I want you to know that this proposal will develop my scholar’s math skills. My special needs scholars already have to overcome so much so that they can learn. I want them to have a comfortable and organized place to develop their skills and reach their goals. You will be donating to my scholars education and to their future.
