A Different Kind Of Board-om

My students need a class set of individual dry erase boards and a class set of quick answer hand-held dry erase boards.

I am a 7th grade math teacher in a high-need school hoping to bring back a love of learning, and even more so, a feeling of success for each and every one of my students. My students come to me with any number of challenges that are beyond their control--being hungry, homeless, feeling not cared for and tired. They also come with challenges that I strive daily to help them overcome--a lack of basics that must be mastered before they can move on, and more importantly a lack of self-esteem.

Most students start school with a vast love of learning and education. By the time they get to middle school, they are "worksheet weary" and tired of lectures. Most teachers find it very difficult to truly engage students and keep them interested.

I have noticed that my students LOVE to write on my white board at the front of the room. With individual white boards, I can keep their attention and keep them actively engaged. I will be able to teach to their strengths and weaknesses because I will be able to constantly assess what each person is understanding and where each student is missing the concept.
