Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach kindergarten at a very low income school. We have the breakfast in the classroom program and 100% free lunch to ensure all of our students get at least two meals a day. I teach all subjects in my classroom so a sand and water table is of great need.

I have a sand and water table now, however it has a huge crack in the bottom. This makes it difficult to put any liquids in it because they leak out. I have been able to do some cool science things like hiding magnet eggs in Easter grass and letting the children experience the sense of smell and touch by buying a huge can of coffee and putting it in the sand table. It would be nice for them to have liquids to do things with as well.

If I had a new sand and water table the students would get so many more experiences. Being able to put water in it when we talk about the ocean. I sometimes like to not just have dirt but also give them mud. Putting finger paint in the table and adding things to it like flour, to thicken it, sand to give it a texture is out of the question because it will drip all over the floor. Cleaning it out is also very difficult as it is difficult to poor water in without it leaking. This sand and water table is also important for teaching math skills. The students use different items to measure and build with which brings in their math skills.

Every pre-k and kindergarten classroom in my school has a sand and water table that can by used to its capacity. I would like to have one that can be used the way it should be. Having a new sand and water table will help my students with science and their senses and also math skills. The language skills will be greatly developed as they are talking with each other and using new words like more, heavy, light, sink, float, etc. We were unable to cover a sink/float skill this year because the water leaked all over the floor before they get the items in the tub. Please help our students get to use their sensational senses by donating a new sand and water table.
