Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach general music grades PreK - 8th in an urban setting. I have a multi-cultural student population. There are over 550 students in my school and I see most students once a week for music class.

I don't have a budget and rely on grants to fund my program. Instruments are more expensive than books for other classes and therefore harder to raise money to fund them. However, students need to have instruments in music class to perform on rather than old buckets I've used to have the students make sounds.

I would like to purchase some djembes, which are a type of African drum. By having these instruments, students can perform world music ensembles in an authetic fashion, and also be inspired to play because they are using a "real" instrument.

Your donation will ensure that many students will get to play instruments in my general music classes. By playing instruments like this, it will help foster music learning, performing, and creativity in my students.
