Increasing Social Communication in Students with Autism

My students need a card reader in order to give a verbal model of social language. This model will slowly become faded so that the students will begin to spontaneously produce language to have a social conversation with each other.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a speech language pathologist that works with students with autism, ages 5-8 in a high-need area in New York.

All of the students in my school have difficulties forming social conversations. I can model the conversations for them, but this has shown to have little carryover.

Creating social scripts is a great way to begin learning how to converse socially and appropriately. A card reader provides a model for scripted conversation that can become faded as necessary. They will learn to initiate, maintain, change, and terminate conversation over a variety of topics.

You will make it possible for my students to have a social conversation with peers for the first time in their lives.
