I have just been hired as the new art teacher in a Public school; my classroom is in a school which is about to change from a junior high to an elementary and so our student numbers are about to dramatically increase. Our current supplies are very limited and there are many wonderful art projects that I would love to engage my students in if I only had the supplies and resources. I think art is a wonderful path for learning and these students deserve as much opportunity as everyone else.

Today I heard a student tell another, "I couldn't WAIT to get to art today". My students are ready for real work. They are involved and making deeply personal art. I hate to limit their expression because I don't have what they need. We have the basics now, but to really shine we need more.

With some foam, glitter, paper cutters and odds and ends, my students can take their imagination to the ends of the universe. A boring old cereal box can become a King Arthur's castle or a WWF ring. A Popeye's cup can be a princess hat or a rocket ship. These little bits of fluff will change what we can do.
