I am a fourth grade teacher of a Title I school in rural, southeastern, North Carolina. We are a high need community due to the Title I status as the majority of our students are on free or reduced lunch.

I am new to fourth grade this year, and I have to teach a unit on rocks and minerals. I am lacking everything from the rocks to the resources to teach the unit. Supplies are limited, and the majority of projects or necessary supplies are supplied by teachers like myself and few parents that can afford to donate. I am in serious need of help in obtaining the materials and supplies necessary to teach this unit.

I want to provide my students with the same "rich, hands-on, real-life" learning that they so desire and look forward to in my classroom daily. But I'm afraid that if I don't get these materials, I will do my students an injustice in this department as I lack the appropriate resources needed in order to promote their learning. My students will be able to manipulate and to discover the properties of each rock and/or mineral from its hardness, luster, magnetism, etc. to the classification and purpose of each of the rocks and minerals if I have the needed samples, books, and posters.

Please help me to give "luster" to my students' learning on Rocks and Minerals and enable them to discover the many properties of each of the rocks and minerals found in the United States. After all, you will help me to possibly educate another Geologist or Marine biologist with your kindness. Please help me in this quest to further educate today's and tomorrow's children.
