Greetings! I am the privileged teacher of a group of Kindergarten and first grade students in a economically challenged southeastern school district. Nearly half of my students are non-English speaking and a few have exceptional needs. Even though our school is a haven that provides academic rigor and relevance as well as relief from the trappings of poverty, the children are unable to escape the effects that the recession has had on our school district. Teachers are asked to do more with less everyday. Both the children and I children are impacted by the fiscal limitations of our school district.

I know that to the naked eye laminating doesn't classify as a necessity, but I have found a way to make literacy more hands-on and engaging. I have found a GREAT resource in the Florida Center for Reading Recovery (www.fcrr.org)! It is a website that offers student center activities that offer remediation and enrichment for children in literacy. It is an extensive resource that provides instructions and activities that must be printed to be used.

The issue is that once I've downloaded the activities I have no way of preserving them for future use or for my students to take home and return without being severely damaged. I have purchased my own laminator, but am finding the cost of the pouches a personal financial strain. I would like to develop a binder to keep activity samples for co-workers and parents to peruse, but more importantly I'd like to make sure that these activities can be used over and over again.

This is where your help is needed. If you donate to this proposal it will help me to replenish the supplies needed for the laminator that I've already purchased. Your donation would meet me halfway to preserving precious projects, sharing with colleagues and families...ultimately impacting the literacy development of our student body and their families.
