Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach the Fourth grade bilingual and Read 180 classes. The school is a title one school so many of the students are not able to bring in school supplies.

As a teacher is is very important to me to provide the things for them that the school or they are not ab;e to afford so that they can have every opportunity to be successful in school and have a love for learning. My students are not crazy about reading since their success in this subject, read 180, has been challenged but they Love science. Our text books are not on their reading levels so I often just do picture walks with the class and have to rely on optical data to help them understand the concepts I am teaching them.

The students love the real life photos and love to ask questions about pictures so I feel it would increase their learning in science to have Time Life. Additionally I would like to create a class library that would enable them to keep a filing system to store all of their periodicals so that they could use them for research, science experiments or Just reference. The school can only afford one bookshelf per class and right now it serves as a partition from the neighbor class and holds all of our workbooks. This project would mean so much to my students, most of them do not even have computers or books at home. Often they tell me there aren't even scissors to cut out pictures I have given them in my personal science magazines. I hope to foster their love for learning science.
