I want to inspire my students to be active. As a Physical Education teacher I have noticed a huge decline in the activity levels of kids. I see kids being more overweight, more lazy, and overall, less healthy. I want exercising to be fun. I hope to inspire my students to develop a life long healthy lifestyle.

Our children are part of the TV, XBox, Computer, and sitting generation. Children are not nearly active enough. Childhood obesity and diabetes are on the rise. I teach Physical Education to students in grades K-5. My school is a pilot school for a Coordinated School Health Program.

My students need 30 pedometers to calculate their activity levels in my Physical Education class. With the support of our community and grants we have had a track built in the back yard of our elementary school. If my students have pedometers to wear, we can keep up with how active they are. I think that this will help empower the students to be more active and it will also be fun and competitive for them to keep up with their steps. Students can work on their math skills too, by counting and logging steps.
