Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the literacy coach at a very large middle school with a wide range of student backgrounds and needs.

You tube, reality television, and cell phones are all at the center of teen entertainment. We can use the sensationalism of this digital fervor to engage the students in learning in the classroom. Students can use their knowledge of how to make video clips to enhance individual reports, projects, or assignments in just a few minutes and a small piece of equipment.

With only 2 digital camcorders, students will have a new method of reporting out when working in groups, a different way to present material to the class, a unique way of sharing field trips, and an empowerment in adding to multimedia presentations. Students need a chance to shine while being themselves.

Your help with this project will make it possible for my students to create memorable learning experiences. At the middle school level, motivation for students to engage in tasks can be difficult. Not only will they be enhancing their work, but the kids will also be engaging in activities that are relevant to their lives outside of school. Students just may get a taste of the "star power" many of them desire.
