It may be entitled "Little Red Tool Box" but it is anything but little on ideas and supplies. I teach kindergarten, both a morning session and an afternoon session. Our school has 48% of it's students on free or reduced lunches. We have an ELL population of 57 students out of 517 students. We have learning disabled, mildly mentally disabled and severely and profoundly disabled students. My classrooms are a melting pot of the above mentioned students. I have regular education students, special needs students, and ELL students.

In order to meet the individual needs of my students I must have a variety of levels at each of my work stations. One of my six stations is the ABC station. At this station my students work on various skills related to the ABC's: such as letter identification, matching upper and lower case letters, word building, rhyming, opposites, and high frequency words.

I would like to have the Little Red Tool Box Kindergarten Classroom Set. This set includes many if not all of the previously mentioned skills. This Tool Box would be an excellent addition to my ABC center and it covers many varied levels of learning. Mastering letter identification and beginning and ending sounds are a kindergarten state standard for Indiana. Gone are the days of just learning to get along, sharing, and taking turns. Shame on us! Indiana teachers are now responsible to teach kindergarten students to read.

The Little Red Tool Box would definitely engage my students in the fundamentals of reading. The alphabet letters and pictures are great for small groups and independent practice. The high frequency foam word tiles are the complete Dolch word list. Being able to quickly identify these words would increase fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. In addition to these tiles are the word family foam tiles. These help improve decoding and spelling skills. The Tool Box also has blends, digraphs, and vowel pair tiles. The more word parts children learn to recognize the more words they can read and spell with confidence. As you can see this Tool Box would be an excellent source of learning for any young child.
