At our charter school, we believe in the power of the integration of the arts into the core curricula to teach thinking skills and retain information. My art is technology, and I assist students in learning the core curricula of reading, writing, math, social studies, and science through a variety of hands-on integrated computer applications.

Among the many interactive programs I have developed that integrate technology into the curriculum is one which combines claymation, stop-action photography, and movie making to create short animated videos which demonstrate understanding of core content. I have done this with students in grades 5 - 8. While I have enough computers to allow teams of two or three students working together to create the movie, my biggest obstacle is a lack of sufficient cameras to allow all students the opportunity to take enough pictures for a production, in the time available.

Basically, I need four digital cameras. I have two, and the more I have, the more students who can be taking pictures. This increases time on task, time to take higher quality pictures, and time to complete final product.

Through your support, more students will be able to participate in this approach to learning, and I will be able to expand the number of grade levels impacted by this approach.
