I am a Kindergarten/1st grade special needs teacher in the South Bronx, who had the amazing experience of working with an intelligent and fascinating group of 4-6 year olds. They surpassed all expectations and stereotypes of special need students.
Being an elementary school teacher, I teach reading, writing, and mathematics. However the reason for this letter is specifically to ask for picture books, level A, and Level B books. Most of my students were able to read at some level and with books that are more appropriate to their needs I can better calibrate my lessons to move them further toward improving their reading.
Reading is so important that I cannot stress the need to have it as a focus in my classroom. The books that will be provided can be added to our books and our library to provide rich opportunities for my students to select and learn from various books.
