Mrs. P. Lewis Chapel Middle School
Fayetteville, NC Grades 6-8

I teach 7th grade reading. I have several students who love to respond to questions and I can always depend of them to get the answer right or at least make the effort to answer a question. I also have those students who can get lost in the background because they are too shy to answer questions. My school is looking for ways in which to enhance our curriculum and to ensure success on end of grade assessments. It is my belief that before some students are a success on these tests teachers have to do what they can to boost their confidence in their academics.

Raise your hand if you think the answer to question 3 is B? There has got to be a better way. In looking for a more creative way of having students answer questions in class, I came across some information on response cards. Some of my students try to fade away in the background and allow other students to answer questions even though they know the right answer themselves. All students should have the right to have their answers shared with the class but how?

I will tell you how, by using Student Response Cards. By using these cards students will be able to share their answers to the class in a non-threatening way and the teacher will also be able to quickly assess which students need extra attention on a particular concept. The material requested for this project is card stock. By using card stock to create the various type of response cards needed, this will make them more durable and can be used for years to come. This will benefit my students by giving them an alternative way to respond to questions instead of responding using pen and paper all the time.

Your help with this project will ensure the success of many students in my classroom. By helping out with this project, you are helping me help other students to participate in class with more confidence than ever before.
