I teach for a Chicago Public School located in the East Rogers Park area of this wonderful city. I am an Elementary School Librarian and I serve a population that is very diverse as well as needy. My students (95%)receive free and/or reduced lunch meals and come from a very low socio-economic status.

The obstacle I have faced for a while now is trying to reach all my students, Kindergarten through Eighth. All children regardless of age or gender, learn is different ways and as a teacher it is my goal to reach all of them and differentiate my instruction. However, this is necessarily an easy task when one is working with a tight budget. For example, throughout the years there have been many projects I have wanted to implement, however, due to the lack of financial resource they have never materialized.

The resources I am requesting consist of tools that will not only help students with varying learning modalities, but, also aid me in the teaching of a skill. For example, the Whisper Phones will be used for practicing daily independent reading while listening to themselves and making self-corrections along the way. The Echo Microphones also aid in the fluency aspect of reading. Students will use this tool during plays and oral reading as a practice resource as well as a prop. The grading pen and the cardboard shelf will be used for maintaining a better organization in the class. And last but not least, the compact discs requested will be used as transition cues as well as to learn basic skills in a fun and "out-side-of-the-box" way.

As mentioned earlier, I am limited in funds (and so is my school). I try to be the best teacher I possibly can by advocating for my students and their needs. I truly hope you choose my project for funding and I thank you on behalf of my students for investing in this noble cause.
