Although all of my students watch television, very few of them have actually had the opportunity to be a television STAR! I teach 7th grade English (reading and writing) to 60 students at a public school in the most impoverished area in the United States. The pre-teens in my class have been given the privilege of receiving instruction in both Spanish and English throughout their elementary school years. So, they are bilingual and biliterate, a tool that will help them in this increasingly interconnected world.

Every day, my students leave my class and head home to watch television, play with their video games, and instant message their friends on the internet. It is difficult for teachers to compete with technology these days, so it is vital to incorporate it into the classroom! Because of limited funds, my school does not offer many opportunities to bring technology into my lessons. So I need your help! My students are writing advertisements for their incredible new inventions, and we want to video tape our work to share with other classes, friends, and family. Unfortunately, we do not have easy access to a camcorder!

By getting our hands on a this important piece of technology, we can share our work with those we love. I am a firm believer in celebrating student work, and nothing pleases middle-schoolers more than being able to show off their awesome ideas and writing using technology!

Please help make my students television stars! It is the generous gifts from thoughtful donors like you that inspire children to love their education. In spite of today's incessant budget cuts, I have faith that there is a way to continue engaging my students in their pursuit of knowledge.
