My Sixth Grade Math students are bored to tears with our white board. They are much more interested in flashing, backlit, Liquid Crystal Displays than smelly, dirty, dry-erase ink. Please help make our classroom a cleaner, nicer smelling, more productive place to learn! I have two goals with this equipment: 1. I will be able to deliver more interesting and effective math presentations to my students using this brilliant bit of technology. We will also be able to better display student work in a more vibrant way. Since a TV is more durable and easier to maintain than a projector, this piece of equipment is a great investment. 2. Time and again my students tell me they are going to have a rewarding career as a result of their "mad" video game skills. Since my college roommate is a video game programmer, I know this is not the case. Sure one can obtain a rewarding career creating video games, but the reward comes from crunching numbers not mashing buttons. I will identify at-risk students who show an aptitude for video games. We will start a club for these students to keep them out of trouble before and after school. This cohort of students will then participate in a lecture provided by a video game programmer. Each student will have the opportunity to "create" their own video game. The game will be playable in the classroom on our great new LCD TV. A tournament will be slated to determine the best of the best. The students will then travel to EA Tiburon in Orlando to challenge the EA gamers in another tournament. There, the students will witness the exciting culture of Tiburon to inspire them to work hard to pursue a career as a video game programmer. Finally, I will track the discipline and achievement scores of the students in the cohort. I will be able to tell if establishing a connection between good school work and an interesting rewarding career opportunity had any affect on the students' ability to follow school rules and excel in the classroom. Now you have the opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a student.
