Last year, we introduced a program for girls, "Life is not a Fairytale", with a book talk/tea and discussions on building good self-esteem and becoming a successful individual. I am the media specialist at a Title 1, district-wide day school for students who have learning and emotional behavioral disabilities, for students in grades 7-12. Many students are in Foster Care; some are homeless; and, many have been in alternative education for the majority of their school experience. I am requesting 15 books (Oprah Winfrey biography)to be presented (as a gift) to each girl at a book talk/tea. After reading about the humble beginnings of Oprah, the girls will have an improved self-esteem, develop a desire to read, and increased hope for a better future. The poverty rate, at this school, is high. On average, 80+% of our students are on free/reduced lunch. We know that these are difficult economic times, but your donation will encourage reading and go to a worthy cause.
