Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My seventh and eighth grade English Language Arts students work hard each and every day. 93% of students at the school are eligible for free or reduced lunch, which constantly inspires me to create a classroom with high expectations and a sense of community.

Everyone knows that "the more you read, the more you know." As an English Language Arts teacher, it is my job to help students fall in love with reading and develop great reading habits. Unfortunately, many of my students are dragging their heels and avoiding reading at home and in the classroom.

My solution for students not wanting to read independently in class and at home is to create a more "reading friendly" classroom. With the help of a more interesting classroom library and a comfortable reading nook, I hope to show students what reading is supposed to feel like. Each day, two readers will be able to sit in the reading nook during independent reading time. I believe that more and more students will want to be able to read there, and will start to exhibit great reading habits when they are motivated to earn the reward of sitting in the reading nook.

It is inspiring to think of what my students will be able to achieve throughout their lives with a greater love of reading. I hope that you will help them take this giant step forward and help us build our reading nook!
