Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 3rd grade at a high-need community school in California. Each year I have anywhere between 30-35 students. My class on average has 40-50% English Language Learners. These students face the challenge of not only 3rd grade content, but they face the challenges of learning the English language. Not only do my ELL students need the support my English only students need the support as well. Please help my students become fluent readers.

If you live in California you know that the state is struggling with its budget. Sadly, education has been cut a great deal. This leaves very little extra money for support materials such as technology based materials. Over the last few years my students have struggled with reading fluency. I have found some technology based materials to help them become fluent readers.

If my students are able to receive these materials they will be able to increase their reading fluency which directly relates to an increase in their reading comprehension. I will use the listening center so that my students can HEAR what fluent readers sound like. They will also be able to PRACTICE with the CD as they read on their own. The timers will give the students confidence for they will track their reading and their improvements. The Yaker Tracker and the dividers will help keep students on task during Universal Access time. UA time is when I work with small groups while students practice on their own.

You will make it possible for my students to increase their reading fluency and reading comprehension if you support our project. My class and I would like to THANK YOU in advance for taking the time to consider our future.
