The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go. - Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"
My students are filled with enthusiasm and excitement for learning, life, friends and a variety of interests.
As a teacher of five year old students, we jump into projects with both feet and make big plans. Their enthusiasm for school and life is exhausting but infectious, and teaching them is an exciting and joyful experience.
My Project
This year we are going to hold two family nights to encourage students and their families to practice Language Arts and Mathematics skills at home. First, we will host a "Books and Buddies Night". This evening will be dedicated to educating parents regarding the importance of early literacy. Every child will leave this event with a brand new book, a "reading buddy" (stuffed animal), and a homemade literacy game. The second family night is titled "Magnificent Math Madness Night". Families will peruse several stations and engage in simple, but meaningful, math games. The idea is to begin to generate a love of literacy and mathematics both within and outside of school.
Giving a child a book may seem like such a small thing, but we have found that children of all ages love to read and be read to.
By providing our families with their own books and math manipulatives, we are opening the door for a love of learning.
