I teach beginning band at three K–5 elementary schools, each bursting with diversity, personality, and vibrant school spirit. My bands are full of energetic, curious, and fearless young musicians who are always ready to dive into something new. In our classroom, they know they are safe, supported, and genuinely cared for—not just as students, but as unique and wonderful human beings. Our district has a long, proud tradition of exceptional music programs, and I’m thrilled to help our youngest learners take their very first steps on that musical journey. Teaching beginning band truly feels like a gift. There’s nothing quite like seeing a student’s face light up when they create their first real sound, play a song they love, or suddenly realize, “I can do this!” Those moments of discovery and joy are electric—and they’re what make this work so meaningful and inspiring every single day.
