Every school year brings a new group of young musicians, each with their own personality, potential, and curiosity. I have the privilege of teaching beginning band at three wonderfully diverse K–5 elementary schools filled with energy, creativity, and school spirit. For many students, band is their first opportunity to play an instrument and make music with others. I strive to create a classroom where every child feels welcomed, encouraged, and valued—a safe place to take risks, learn from mistakes, and celebrate progress. Our district has a proud tradition of outstanding music education, and I am honored to introduce our youngest musicians to that tradition. Watching students produce their first sound, master a new song, and discover “I can do this!” is an incredible gift. I cannot wait to see what they accomplish this year!
