My students are high school special education individuals with multiple disabilities. Some exhibit sensory losses and behavior and/or social problems. Still, some exhibit weakness in auditory processing and have speech and physical mobility limitations. They are mostly visual auditory, kinesthetic and learners. My students are diverse and come from very low-income backgrounds. My school is a special education school system with several programs that serve students with a wide spectrum of physical and cognitive disabilities. It provides services for students with learning disabilities, autism, mental retardation, and other multiple disabilities. The school holds to an educational model that is predicated on a rigorous functional academic curriculum. Really, my school is committed to establishing a learning system that is an example of leadership in the community by sound educational practices that nurture student independence and facilitate community integration.
