In an early childhood classroom, the carpet sets the tone for learning. This classroom carpet has numbers 1-20, a complete alphabet with upper- and lower-case letters, shapes, and color patches with corresponding color words. Preparing students with basic academic skills can be difficult. I have noticed my students love playing games and moving while learning. This carpet will let my students jump, hop, match, dance, or play seek and find while learning. The educational carpet would engage and provide my students the opportunity to move and groove, laugh, and giggle while learning letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. One activity would be to give each student a letter card. When the students find their letter on the carpet, they would jump up and down on the letter. Then the students would name their letter and act like something that starts with their letter. Another activity would be tossing a beanbag on a number. Then the class would hop on one foot that many times. This could be done in small groups or pairs. These activities would result in student engagement and better retention of information. Letters, numbers, shapes, and colors are the foundation for learning to read, count, and create. This classroom carpet would provide my students with the basics learning tools to become lifelong learners.
