Many of my students come from a background of low income, and struggle daily with all of the hardships that come with that. The area surrounding our school has the highest number of known gang members and a significant number of violent and drug related incidents in our city. Involvement in band and music saves lives. It provides a positive and safe environment that equips them with valuable, lifelong skills that extend far outside of the band room. It opens doors and offers opportunities that may not otherwise be realized.

About my class
