The Hate U Give is a an honest story about finding hope and love amidst unthinkable tragedy. My students need The Hate U Give because it is a contemporary, critically acclaimed novel about a girl finding her voice and her power in the face of a traumatic and life altering event. It will be a breath of fresh air to my students as it validates and celebrates a culture that they are told to be ashamed of, shares the vulnerability of their stories that they are told to keep quiet, and offers the world an invitation to a fight that they've been fighting all on their own.
