Maker spaces allow students an opportunity to learn new skills with hands-on activities. Kids can build robots, learn to code and make circuits light up a cardboard house with the maker space supplies on hand. Now, I want to take our school's maker space to the next level; MOBILITY. Space is a premium at our school so the best way to get the maker space materials into the students' hands is to make the whole space to go. I will recycle unused library bookcases by adding heavy-duty casters to them so that they can be moved from the library to the classroom. There will be shelf storage bins for smaller items like paper, beads, and pens and hanging storage pieces attached to the ends of the units to store things like wrapping paper, scissors, etc. Butcher paper will be attached to the top for larger-scale projects. There will be several shelves left open for students to store works in progress. Helping my students reach their potential and have fun doing it is very important to me. This project will help me get the students to use their imagination and problem-solving skills which will, in turn, help them to use those skills in their lives both on campus and at home.
