These books will make such a meaningful difference for my students when we are reading books together or when the students begin their own journey within a book. My students love to pick up a book and read the pictures while telling their own stories that go with the pictures. Once they start to recognize words, they love to find the words they know in "real books" and show other students. It is a beautiful moment when a student, finally, realizes that they can read. When choosing books, I look for books that students can relate to, books that expose my students to a whole new world, and books that make them laugh. These books will teach the students specific skills they need to comprehend the text. For example: "The Book with No Pictures" will teach my students that words have meaning, since there are no pictures in the book. "The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes" and "What Do You Do with a Problem" will teach my students that it is okay to make a mistakes. "The Recess Queen" will teach my students about characters. They will make connections between the characters and themselves, making connections is an important part of getting students to love reading. These books will provide the foundation for my students and get them excited about reading.
