Theses supplies will allow my students to develop a career exploration notebook and a personalized wall poster based on the book they will read, "What Color Is My Parachute - For Teens" by Carol Christensen. Students will take an annual career exploration exam and place the results in their notebooks along with their essay, college printouts, scholarship print outs, a college application resume (both written and photo) and a college steps/checklist. The poster will be a graphic portrait for them to put up on their wall at home. The poster will serve two purposes. First, it will be a clear reminder of their goals and what their talents and interests show to be career fields that best suit them. Second, it will aid in communicating with their parents what they have discovered about themselves. I don't believe the latter can be understated. Students are very shy about communicating paths that differ from their parent's career paths or what they desire their child's career path to be. If we can match students with a much higher level of fidelity regarding their actual talents and interests, they are much more likely to be successful in their careers. This is an EXCITING project that I believe will be the start of something very big both in student engagement and post high school success. I have a great vision for this system that I am installing and these resources will go a long way in helping me to achieve that vision and make it an exceptional reality!
