My students are ninth, tenth and eleventh graders in Brooklyn, NY. They are diverse learners from many different backgrounds. The range of ability in each of my classes is very wide because I teach in a special education classroom, where some students have learning disabilities, and others have emotional or physical disabilities. Some of my students have only lived in the United States for a couple of years, while others have lived in Brooklyn their whole lives. My students are very creative, and in the past they have excelled at poetry slams and writing inspired by artwork and music.
