Over the years, I have seen the impact art has had on the children. This program not only provides education of art, but free-thinking, mentorships and leadership skills for older students to work with the younger students, and a safe place for the students to go after school. I continue to run the program because it’s just as important to me as it is to the kids. Having additional resources as simple as tables and chairs is critical for learning. In a low-income Title I school, the students want to learn anything and everything. With over 400 students during the school day and another 30-60 art club members, funding can be extremely difficult. We need help to move beyond the basics of paper, crayons, and markers to introduce the tools and media that professional artists use. The opportunity to take these young artists and truly make their dreams come true would be incredible.Continue to have art in their lives throughout elementary, middle and high school and hopefully into their future careers.
